At Notable Capital, we believe that Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) should be core to a company's ****DNA. We believe that DEI is not only critical to being a socially responsbile employer, but also an indicator of sound business judgement. Just in case you had any doubt, we've highlighted studies below that demonstrate how Diversity, Equity & Inclusion help create long-lasting and profitable businesses.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion From Day 1

In addition to being able to enjoy the clearly demonstrated benefits of diverse teams early on, it's far easier to scale a diverse workforce from the beginning, than to play catch-up at a later date. Think about it—candidates and employees from under-represented backgrounds are more likely to know, refer, attract, and retain other candidates and employees from under-represented backgrounds, so by design it's easier to scale. If companies don't build DEI into their culture from day one, they'll lose ****early access to rich veins of talent and it will inhibit their ability to hire great talent later. If companies don't think about this early on, they're at risk of hiring a homogenous workforce, which stifles creativity and innovation.

A McKinsey & Company analysis shows that diverse and inclusive teams outperform teams that lack diversity and inclusivity. Diverse teams and inclusive cultures are also key to attracting talent in the developing workforce. According to McKinsey, “companies in the top quartile on executive level gender diversity had a 27% likelihood of outperforming peers on long-term value creation" and, "companies with the most ethnically diverse executive teams are 33% more likely to outperform their peers on profitability.”

A 2004 University of Michigan Study found that a person's individual performance within a group is dependent on the other group members working on the problem. The study found that a diverse group can outperform a team of the "best and brightest".

A 2011 Forbes Study reinforced that diversity in the workforce and inclusion in the workplace drives innovation and ensure that products and services are respectful of client and customer cultures. According to this study, 47% of millennials seek out diversity and inclusion when evaluating potential employers.
