Gender Neutral / Single Occupancy Bathrooms - In addition to single sex restrooms, it is wise to add gender neutral or single occupancy bathrooms. Transgender men and women or non-binary people often experience issues with single sex spaces—they can be made to feel unsafe or uncomfortable, or they may be forced to make a decision that doesn't align with their gender identity. Gender neutral restrooms can alleviate anxiety for trans and non-binary employees. It is important to note that gender neutral bathrooms should not necessarily replace single sex bathrooms entirely.
"Mothers" Rooms - Lactation rooms provide a safe and comfortable private room for nursing mothers, and are legally required for most companies. This room should not be a bathroom and should be close to the workspace (not in a separate building or difficult to get to).
Quiet Rooms - Quiet rooms can provide a space for people to pray, meditate, or reflect.
Catered Meals - Any food or catered meals provided by a company should take into account religious and other dietary restrictions/preferences.
Workplace Decor - The workplace should be free of images, posters, etc. depicting negative racial or gender stereotypes. In fact, images and posters in the workplace can serve as effective tools to reinforce diversity, equity, and inclusion.
